Active/passive pickups??????

    I just got a brand new ibanez BTB 6-string (very nice) but according to my friend you have to install some battery or something to make the pickups active is this true???????
    Im only 14 and i dont have expeirence with fixing stuff and messin with my basses so can someone tell me what i need to do.

    You usually need at least 1 9 volt battery to run an active bass. some bass use 18 volt pre-amps, but it's pretty obvious how many you need. just open up the back panel. I'm assuming there's a switch of some sort that controls whether it's active or passive. When active, it souldn't play at all if there;s no battery. Altough I may be wrong.
