active pickups or active circuit

    can someone explain to me the differences, and what are the advantages or disadvantages of each please?

  3. Well...as far as I know, active preamps can be bypassed(when used with passive pickups) and active pickups, are in requirement of a battery all the time..

    okay, yea thats what i "picked up" (haha not funny i know) from the links, thanks to the people that posted them :)

    if a bass has active pre-amp,and passive pickups that doesnt always mean that youll be able to switch between active and passive tho does it? it just depends if the bass comes with that option right?

    Exactly, it still needs to be wired with that option - usually as a switch or a push/pull on the volume bot.

    Some basses don't have that option - Musicman Stingrays for example - and are always active.
