  1. so i just installed a aggie obp-3 in my bass which has emg dc's in it. but there seems to be a problem. i cant boost the bass nearly at all or the mids too much without getting distortion to the point its ugly as hell. whats all wrong?

That's what preamps do. They overboost freqs, and in many amps, they cause distortion. And that's why I really don't like them. So in the basses I have that have them, I pretty much leave them flat except for small boosts occasionally. Less is definitely more with active preamps.

However, if you absolutely must have them boosted, you might try the active input of your amp if it has one.

Is the gain and/or EQ on your amp cranked up really high?
