Whether the bass is active or passive is mostly irrelevant when it comes to output. Most of the time active basses have higher output but there are some high output passive basses too.

i really can't answer that I've never had a passive.

But i don't know why i imagine them sounding weacker...
  4. AllodoX. . My Stingray has a higher out-put than my passive Fender Jazz.
  5. There's no hard and fast rules about that. Some passive basses have higher output than some active basses and vice-versa. My SR5 had higher output than my Jazz when it had the stock pickups. I put basslines in the Jazz and now it's hotter than the SR5. So there you go :D
