    ill make it simple, i play mostley funk nd slapping n that wit a little jazz n rock on th side im thinkin of gettin a new bass so wots th difference and ne reccommendations?

    Get a bass that has both options, or make sure you like the sound of the active EQ. A good passive setup can sound better than a cheap active EQ.
    You can also upgrade most passive basses later, e.g. with a J-Retro.
