Hello, I would like to knwo if it is possible to add an active passive option to a fender jb deluxe, the new 2011 and later jb deluxe bass has that option but I dont have the wiring diagram and I wonder if it is posibble to ad this option to mine. If it is possible please tell me how to do it and if I can also add a passive tone control. Thank you
Here's the wiring for a Deluxe Active Jazz by Fender::: Open that in Picasa Viewer and you can blow the pix up as large as you want. I guess it's possible - but the way you're asking makes me think this may be out of your (and my) league for a modification like you want.
thank you but thats a precision deluxe, mine is a jb. I found the diagram of a jb deluxe in fender website , It shows the way everything is wired but I need to know if I can add this options or not. new 2011 deluxe has this option but theres no diagram for them yet.
Not without great difficulty. You would have to switch the output from the blend pot from the input of the preamp to a volume pot, and the volume pot that's in the bass is after the preamp, so it's probably a low value, so that would have to be changed. But another way would be to eliminate the volume after the preamp, and place one between the preamp and the blend, and then switch to passive there. So then you would be switching the output from the volume pot to the jack, while removing the output from the preamp. I never feel the need to switch my active basses to passive. If I want that type of tone I just reduce the treble and turn up the bass.
I found this::: "This guitar wiring modification shows how to wire a double pole-double throw ON/ON mini switch or push pull switch as a true bypass or active passive switch. By adding a tru bypass switch allows the sound to remain pure and noise free when the preamp is not needed as we as provides an instant On/Off feature for the active electronoics and allows the instrument to be used in the event the battery is dead. This wiring mod can be easily done with any active premap or electronics including electroncs from Bartolini, Seymour Duncan, EMG, Agular and many more." So far, that's as good as I can find. Sorry.
That will work if the volume pot after the preamp is replace with a volume pot after the blend. The volume pot will have to be 250k or 500k. BTW, you can't put copyright notices on graphics you did not create.
I know - it's automatic with my program - but I can't turn it off. Sorry. I DID edit it a little though - EDIT :::
Maybe, but you are editing copyrighted material (in the case of the Fender diagram) so you can't re-copyright it. What program might that be? If it had a field to enter that text, then all you have to do is leave the field blank.
I have a Jazz Deluxe and let me tell you; if it is the older preamp with a 9v battery get rid of it! It is a really bad preamp.
How 'old' ya saying? I've got a 2009 and it's sweet. Be careful of broader than necessary paint brushes. FWI - and AFAIK - the MIA Deluxes are 18VDC whilst the MIMs are 9VDC. Mine is 9VDC.
Ir is a preamp from a fender custom classic jb which it is supposed to be the same as jb deluxe 2010 it needs 18v. Should I do it the same way?
it is in the bass, why? I was thinking on changin it for a sadowsky pream (the easiest way to have a passive option) but I would like to keep me fender sounding like a fender.
I asked because you said: "It is a preamp from a fender custom classic jb which it is supposed to be the same as jb deluxe 2010 it needs 18v. Should I do it the same way?" That to me implies that you have one lying around loose, in hand and not installed in a bass. Not too sure if you have one or the other in a bass right now, all I can say is that there doesn't appear to be much - if any - information on adding the switch you want to instal. I'd jump on it in a heartbeat too if it had been done before and some instructions were available.
the one I have installed right now is one from a custom classic jb, I asked fender before but they said it is top secret... ***! I just one to add a passive swich to it and make it work with volumen and pan in passive mode.
If you are inexperienced with installing onboard electronics, I would suggest taking it to a good guitar/bass tech if there's one in your area. If you want a quick and easy solution, several of my students have had good luck with this: http://www.sadowsky.com/accessories/preamp.html
