I was thinking about adding another knob to a Flea bass going from 3 knobs to 4...I don't want to stack anything either. Can a new knob hold be drilled on a finished bass or will I risk cracking the finish? Anyone had any experience with this? Thanks, Marc

    HI!

Of course you can. I would think twice. It will affect resale value. All you do it get a good drill bit and drill slowly and carefully.

I suggest taking it to a good repair person or a local luthier.
It can be done with no problem, but I wouldn't recommend trying your 1st try be on your nice bass.

if you decide to do it yourself drill a 1/16" pilot hole first and then finish it off with the proper sized BRADPOINT drill bit. putting some tape over the area helps reduce (most often prevents) chiping but the knob should cover it if it does decide to chip
