Advantage of Piezo Pups?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by timidbassist, Mar 11, 2005.

  1. Well I am looking into the SR5s and I am wondering what the difference is between the standard MM pickup and the Piezo pup that is optional? I noticed it has one more control knob, and obviously it must sound better if it costs more but I guess I'm wondering what is it that makes it sound better, and would it be better than the standard pickup for Alter Bridge type rock or would the standard be better?
    Thanks in advance,

When you get the optional piezo pickup, you still get the standard MM pup as well, the piezos are in addition to the standard pup. The piezeos are located in the bridge saddles.

So, you can get the traditional SR tone, and you can blend in as much or as little of the piezo as you want...or you can set it all the way to piezo.

I have an SR5 with the piezo and I love it. It adds a certain "grainyness" (for lack of a better word) to the tone. You should try to check it out yourself so you can decide if the additional expense is worth it to you.

  3. Awesome that answers my question.
    Thank you much,
