I'm interested in plugging my bass directly into my iMac. Are there any recommendations for a low-cost cable (1/4" to USB)? I have no idea what I'm looking for, but I don't need super high quality sound, just good enough to lay down bass lines for my band to hear.

    Here are three possibilities.

    Thanks.

from what I can see in the description(s), having no first-hand experience with any of these, I would say PASS on the first 2. they state they work with keyboards, guitars, etc.

Bull Pucky. Guitar impedance is much higher than keyboard, and keyboard signal level is much higher than guitar. You really can't use the same adapter for both, and get good results.

Only the Behringer cable states it's for guitars and basses, and the price indicates it has better A/D conversion.

So - for the FIRST TIME in my LIFE as a musician, I'm going to recommend the Behringer.

Thank you. I haven't had any other responses to this question so far. Is Behringer a brand you usually avoid?

mmmm - me personally, yes, but I admit to owning and using an ADAT interface and a DI box made by Behringer. Something as simple as this analog to USB cable could be well-made and durable, and might be exactly what you are looking for. If you can afford it, get it, and let us know how well you like it (or don't!)
