Picking up more non-bass gigs recently, and need to round out my arsenal for g****r sounds. I would like to pick up a used delay pedal under $75 if possible, with the ability to tap and set delay rather than bending down to turn knobs and guessing. I have heard that Boss makes nice ones, but searching them has produced multiple and confusing results, some showing tap tempo, but needing another footswitch, others dont really specify. Anyone know which models are capable of tap without the extra footswitch? (I am also open to other suggestions rather than the Boss, its just that the one guitarist I play with regularly uses one and likes it) Thanks in advance! :)

If you want a Boss delay DD-3 does not do tap tempo and DD-7 does, I believe DD-6 does but that haven't made that for a couple years now. I do not think the DD-7 needs an extra pedal but I might be wrong. My DD-3 has a direct out but i honestly have never bothered to play with it. Boss website puts all the manuals online, since I buy my pedals used that is where I generally get my manuals.

The one I always recommend - Line 6 Echo Park. Gorgeous fluttery sounds from the tape mod, great digital and analog mods too (but I mostly stick to tape, because it's just THAT good), awesome self oscilation and most of all - really usable tap tempo. Just stomp on the left side of the switch to turn it on, and tap on the right side for tap tempo. I discovered it to be the easiest way to use the pedal because the switch is actually not centered. It has really usable sounds - love the dotted 8th option. Recently I've been playing with swell - man you can make your own post rockish atmospheric experimental songs using only your bass. What can I say, I'm a big fan of this little stompbox, no other delay sounds like it to me (except I guess DL4).

See if you can find a Tech21 D.L.A. pedal used. I was searching for simple delay with tap-tempo and IIRC the Boss DD-7 does need an external pedal so it takes up twice the space of a regular Boss. The Tech21 is a simple straight forward package though you may not find it in your price range.

  6. I have 3 tap tempo delays that work great. unfortunately i think they're all over your $75 budget.
    Line 6 Echo Park
Boss Re-20 Space Echo (also make a DD-20 which has tap)
    Akai Headrush E2

shop around, maybe you'll find a deal.

thanks again, was not familiar with the Line 6, but that looks like a good one...will see what I can score on the used market...:)

  8. The Echo Park is a fantastic delay with tons of good sounds and features for the money. You won't be disappointed.
