ok that puts my brain at ease a little, thank you :)
There seems to be some wiring issues though, for example:
The parallel bass boost toggle switch doesn't work with the bridge pickup engaged, but it works with the neck pickup and in series mode.

I believe the L2KE, or at least the early ones, the middle toggle is a coil tap that switches between single coil and humbucker and later changed to series/parallel as it is today.

I agree that there definitely is a wiring issue(s). Just thought you might want to how the original controls were set up. Otherwise, how's the bass?

So since it needs a nice set up, i guess its ok to take the neck off and check the date right ?
i assume i should remove the strings and do so right ?

  9. That's too bad. If the elecs are blown, I'd return it. You'll never find a used series-e pre. The newer ones don't pack the same wallop as the original v1 did. Not that the newer elecs aren't powerful or don't sound great, they are and they do. It's just that the main reason for paying the price for a nice vintage L2K is the unique elecs (IMO). If you don't need/want that exact setup, maybe better off buying a more recently built L-2000 and avoid all the typical pitfalls involved with the vintage stuff? Or....pony up the extra cash for a nicer example, like the one oldskoolskatedad found. Just sayin'. Good luck!

My thoughts exactly, there was no mention of the preamp not working which stinks in my opinion.
The bass is great, maybe i should ask for a little money back

  11. Sure, you're not going to hurt anything by taking the neck off, but at least slacken the strings first. I'll wager it's an '81, but you'll know the exact date with the neck off, if that matters to you.

I wouldn't think twice about it. I always remove the strings.

Are those budget basses, like the Nikon E Series lenses were?

  15. Yeah that def stinks, everyone hates getting screwed by bad sellers.

Dunno what you paid for it, but if you keep it, maybe ask for a LOTTA money back?

    $850 plus $55 shipping

  17. No, they're more like the un-budget Jaguar e-series.
