Hi everyone. I'm going to get a Hiwatt head and cab, I played one the other day and it was an amazing experience. I'm getting a great deal, so I'm quite happy about that. My only problem is that I can't decide between black or white tolex! I know this is a personal matter of preference, but it's really 6 of 1, 1/2 a dozen of the other for me... I like the white, but I'm wondering if that's just a passing phase and I won't like it in some time. The black is classic, but I might later on regret not getting the white when I had the chance...after all, there aren't a great many of them out there, and it does look attractive. You can see examples of each at: http://hiwatt.com/data/bcabs.html Scroll down and click the pics to make them larger. What would you do? Why? Thanks, looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say!
The white is totally hot, but it will look like crap if you don't get road cases, or at least a nice fitted cover, too. If you can swing that, I say get the white, and resign yourself to cleaning it every once and a while.
The white combo would look very cool, especially if you happen to have a white bass. But if you play out with it a lot, I doubt it will stay as white as it is for a long time. If you plan to get a hardcase for both of them, then it could not be such an issue.
Actually, now that I took a longer look. For me personally, the killer would be red cab + black head.
You are all making it so tough Thanks tho, I appreciate it. Looking forward to reading more thoughts!
Back in the day I used white Toles to cover my amps. Looked great - at first but didn't stay that way for too long. I reverted to black. Paul
Gonna have a koa bass pretty soon. I think the white would be cool, but lots of ppl have correctly pointed out that the white will get dirty quickly and often...is it any different than cleaning black tolex? It'd live for the most part indoors, and taken out once a month or so for a live gig.
