Aftermarket Preamps? Help me choose

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by Aussiephoenix, Mar 26, 2006.

  1. HI.

I've just got my hands on an old Esh Stinger V. Looks like it'll be a sweet bass once I clean it up some.

I need your help to choose a suitable aftermarket preamp for it.

    Here's the Bass Specs:
Neck : Rock Maple w/mahogany Strips, Rosewood Fretboard, 24 Frets.
    Body : Solid Hungarian Ash.
Pickups: Kent Armstrong + Bridge Piezzo
Preamp: Active Esh-Tronics (Vol, Tone, 2x Multi-selection Switches -> FRIED)
    Hardware: Schaller.

What I would like in a new preamp: (or as close to it as possible)
2x Vol, Tone, (or Pup Blend) Piezzo Blend w/pups
    High, Mid, Bass cut/boost
Active /Passive push pull / Switch

Let me know what you think might sound good here...
    Brand/Model please.

    Thanks !

I know John East, maker of the U/J-Retro series also has a unit which will handle piezo

  5. Isnt the Piezzo just a matter of adding a blend pot to whatever preamp I put in there?

Never heard of NOll... just heard about the usual suspects: bartolini, demeter, sadowsky, emg(dont like), etc.
    what's their quality like?

No, generally with a piezo set-up you'll need some type of buffer with your preamp. I've only had experience with the Bartolini, but that Noll interests me.
