    how do the distortions compare?

Is the AG500 a tube emulator or just a distortion?

    anybody?

Distortion. But you can get a nice, tubey growl at lower settings. I love mine.

I'd like to revive this thread. Something I'll find out soon enough, but it is an interesting question and topic of discussion.

Haven't tried the AG500 but the SansAmp RPM will crank some serious distortion while the RBI will give you more of an overdrive/grit. I have both and find they have some of the best sounding dirt for bass.
