AG500/G&L - Saturation level

Hi there, I have a question about the Aguilar AG500.

I read about some problems with the clean channel of the AG500 and the G&L bass; some people told me that with this bass there are problems with the saturation level.

Does anyone know something about this problem?
If yes, any problems with other kind of bass like Jazz bass?

Thank you

i don't know about that specific amp, but i know that some people notice their G&Ls (generally i hear this about L2000, L2500) seriously clipping their preamps. this is especially noticeable in the preamp with boost setting.

i doubt this would be a problem for a jazz bass, especially is said jazz bass is passive.

but, i don't know about that amp. i merely speak in generalities

I have a G&L L2000 and an AG500SC, so maybe I can help.

As a rule, I never dime the volume on my bass. Mostly because then you can adjust your volume when switching between series/parallel and passive/active. It makes all the sounds very usable.
Not diming the volume on your G&L also makes it easier on your amp; the gain on my AG500SC is just under noon most of the times, and I leave it there while adjusting the volume on my bass. It also makes it a lot easier switching between my G&L and, say, a P-bass, wich has a lot less output.
The nature of those very loud MFD-pups allows you to turn down without much altering of your sound, even in passive mode.

When I do dime the volume on the bass with that gain-level on the AG500, it's completely distorted. So I don't do that... :D
