Hey guys, I just (stole) a brand new (looking) SR505 from the classifieds and it's very good for what it is. Only thing lacking is the preamp, a Bart MK1 that is complete garbage. It's über-noisy and the freqs, to me, sound weird and almost artificial. I've read that the pickups are OK - and I'm not quite ready to plonk 250$ (would def. love Fat Stacks) to swap them on a low end bass like this. So now, I'd like to know if you guys could suggest a great versatile, clean (as in, no noise) pre that could get me a cutting tone with more growl that still has the options to get a good classic, fat round tone, as well as a good slap tone. Budget-wise, my choice is kinda limited to the NTMB and BassMods pres... obp3 is stretching it... more than that and I'd probably just resell it. Thanks !
I might recommend Audere. Never heard a bad thing about them and they have a wide range of options for pretty cheap. I plan on getting there 4 band for my SR500.
I've put an NTMB into my SR370F and it's anything BUT aggressive. It's fat, warm, but not aggressive. From what I heard if you want aggressive, look at Aguilar.
Everything seems to point at the OBP3! Unfortunately it's the one that will require the most work to install. Decisions.... Thanks for the input guys, I know this topic comes way too often. (I read them all!) I think the real question may be... is that bass upgrade-worthy?
