Just curious as to whether anyone here's had a chance to compare these two heads. They seem to be in more or less the same class of power and price range. Does the Aguilar offer anything in the way of tone that outweighs all of the features of the Fafner?

I own a Fafner and can only say amazing things about it. As far as the Aguilar, the local dealer in Chicago says "...more scooped, less hi-fi" than the Fafner.

Hmm. I've got the DB750, and I certainly wouldn't use the word "scooped" to describe it. And, I can get a very hifi sound out of it, too. Of course, if I bump the gain up to about 6, I can also get some serious grunt, as well.

It certainly has fewer features thatn the Fafner, so you should definitely try one before you buy. I picked up an Alembic SF-2 for any additional tone shaping that I might want.

Well, I admit to not trying an Aggie. This was from the local shop that sells both.
