I doubt many people out there have tried all these combinations (if there are please chime in) -- for those of you interested in Aguilar cabs, maybe you could check this out for me (I don't have any Aguilar dealers real close to where I live).

Question -- which combination would more likely give a balanced sound with a solid low end AND cut through nicely in a live band mix:
GS112 + GS210 (this is the only combination that I've heard)
    DB112 + DB210
    GS112 + DB210
    DB112 + GS210

I play a BEADG 5 string and a mix of different music from Creedence to Toadies.

if you're using a mono amp, I'd just make sure you have two cabs with similar "sensitivity" numbers. like only 1 or 2 db off. if you put a 95db with a 102db, then the 102 unit will sound alot louder. for every 3db increase it takes 1/2 as much power to produce same volume. I'm generalizing, but I think I'm on the right track. I sure someone with more knowledge will chime in...:D

p.s. I've never heard the DB series cabs, but I've only heard good things and they're suppose to have more mids. I don't know exactly how the aguilar will compare to the EA sound. I had an EA cxl112 and two cxl110s. very hifi or lean to me. I actually compared DIRECTLY the cxl112 to and aguilar gs112. Literally in about 30 seconds I knew I had made a mistake, for me, in buying the EA. I don't like tons of mids and I like a fat, not boomy, bottom. that was the gs112 for me, but now I'm wanting a little more mids, sounds like db112 might be the ticket, but I don't want to increase my cab weight, so if I had the dough I might go for epifani ul112.

I can't comment on the above combos, but a GS112 paired with an S210 sounded fantastic. Why did I sell my 210? :(

The GS112 has a very powerful deep bass response and a fairly scooped balance.
Combined with the GS210 (and a DB750 amp) the two sounded pretty impressive together.

Maybe the GS112NT together with either a UL112 or DB112 would work great.

you might be right, but a 30 Lbs 112 (ul112) is more attrative to me than a 42 Lbs (gs112, 39 Lbs for NT, oops 38, just weighed it)

I realize these are heavier than you're wanting to truck, but have you ever tried the HT112 together with the GS112NT?

It's my understanding that Aguilar is producing a DB112NT to go with the DB112.

Yeah, I'd love to hear the DB112 + DB112NT or DB112NT + DB210 (the reason I mentioned the GS112NT there was Mcrelly already has one).

In general, it's my understanding that the GS112's will have more beef in the deep bass than the DB112's and the DB's will have more punch & more mids.

That's true. I had both the GS and DB 112 and I've found the GS112 to have better deep bass than the DB112. The DB seems to fart a little easier. Both are excellent cabs, just very different.

My present setup is a GS212 with a DB112. Why? Because I wanted my smaller cab (112) to be very punchy. A big part of my gigs are low volume (big band, jazz/latin trios) and I use only the 112 for those, so I wanted a cab that would be clear and "in your face" and cut through.

The GS212 on the other hand is all about deep and warm with a big pillowy low end. I LOVE that!

Finally, the sound of both cabs together is out of this world. The deep lows from the GS212 combined with the foward mids and sweet highs of the DB112 is pure heaven! That's all I use for pop gigs now.

I'd like to try the DB112 with a GS210 to see if I can still get those great lows. The GS212 is a little of a pain to move by myself.

    Interesting!

When I auditioned the GS cabs, unfortunately, I didn't listen to the 210 by itself, but I doubt it would match the low end of the GS212.

Do you think that the pairing of the DB112 and GS112 (or GS112NT) would give you the volume you'd need?

If not, if you could find a used Berg HT210 or Accugroove Tri210L, I'm pretty sure they would have the type low end you seem to be looking for (or maybe an Epifani UL210?).

I have a GS112 and a DB112 and like both of them. For the past 4 years or so I had used a GS112 and loved the sound but started playing again in a rock band and needed a second cab. I heard a lot of good things about the DB series so I purchased the DB112 (there aren't any places nearby that have a lot of good bass gear so I have to buy mostly from reviews). I like the DB112 a lot but can't quite get rid of the GS112 because I still like what it can do.

It has already been said but the GS is more scooped through the mids and gets a deeper low end than the DB. The DB seems a little louder than the GS and the DB has a smoother top end.

I thought I would get a muddy sound by combining the two cabinets because I would be covering too much of the frequency range (if that makes any sense). However, I have been playing with both cabinets a lot lately and really like the full, even sound that I get. My advice would be to try them together and see what you think. Hope that helps.

    Thanks!

My thought is that the two 'somewhat' different tones would complement each other -- each making up for the other's weaknesses -- that's the impression I got from the GS112+GS210 pairing -- seems to be your experience as well.

No, I don't think I'd have enough volume with just 2 x 112 (DB+GS). The GS212 push a LOT of air and is a big part of the perceived loudness of my setup. The DB112 makes up for the mid-cut of the GS and adds punch and bite.

not on a one to one bassis, but one time I ran the two bergs with the eden and slaved the thunderfunk w/aguilar to make a 412 setup. sounded pretty good.

since I lean towards the bergs nowadays I've been thinkin on getting a couple more ex112s so I can have a eden-berg 412 at church!:D
