Currently, I'm running an all-passive instrument with two pickups and 4 pot spaces. Right now my setup is: Switch/Volume/Volume/Tone Could I switch that, using the OBP-1 to set it up like this: Passive Blend Pot: Enabled with the preamp both on and off(would replace the switch since now I'd just have one volume pot) Volume Pot: DPDT pot to switch between having the preamp on and off Bass Pot: enabled with preamp is on, bypassed when preamp is off Passive Tone Pot: Enabled with the preamp both on and off I know this seems a little silly, but I'd like to preserve as much as the passive setup as possible, and just use the bass boost at times when I need it, and still be able to use the passive tone. I'm not at all interested in being able to boost my treble, only roll it off. http://www.aguilaramp.com/pdf/support_wiring_obp1.pdf OR do we think a good EQ pedal would be the way to go instead? Boosting the bass on my amp doesn't change much of the tone with this bass
FWIW: you might think about a Sans Di, MXR M80 Di or the like. Either used is about what a new OBP-1 is and you could retain full passive operation with the by-pass and full active without it. I have both and by-passed sounds like running straight to the amp with no filtering/coloring. Also the MXR has a color switch that when off gives a fairly passive like quality to tone. The Sans has a good reputation for compensating for amps that are lacking and I don't see the MXR much different in that capacity. So you can get clean tone from both or play with distortion if you want. In addition you have a di box and get a useable preamp in the bargain. You don't have do anything to your the bass and you can use them with any bass or pull them out of the chain altogether. It won't give you an active/passive mix but it would give you more of both of either and it will give you both boost and cut and more of it than the OBP-1. Of course the OBP-1 is made in outboard form too.
