Hello, The Aguilar OBP-3 gives very loud and distorted pops/cracks when switched to active. There's no signal, except those cracks... In passive mode everything works fine. The installation was done and double-checked today by a professional technician/luthier... I've had it installed in a Cort Artisan A4, together with a brand new pair of Bartolini's. This bass sounds incredible with these new pup's. I was hoping to use the OBP-3 in passive and active modes, but I'll have to wait a bit longer. Any suggestions? Thanks
I had similar problems with my OBP3, except I got a signal but everytime I touched a knob, there were loud cracks and pops, and a massive hum when I'm playing or not. I have contacted bestbassgear.com (where I purchased it) and Brian told me this: "The shield part of the wire (grey) should be soldered to the back casing of the volume pot, or directly to a wire that goes to the ground lug on the jack. The hot wire (copper wire in plastic) should go to one of the center lugs on the blend pot. If your system uses Vol-Vol, then each pickup's hot would go their volume pot's center lug. There should be a wire from the ground lug on the jack (middle lug) that connects to the shielding in the cavity." I had this done, however the problem continued. Then with a luthier, we removed the bridge and rewired the bridge grounding. It was solved. I hope this helps.
I've solved it. One of the pots (inside the bass) was touching the edge of the hole were all the electronics and cables are in. I turned the pot away from the side and this solved the problem! Thanks.
Hi, I'm about to buy one of these bass but i think i'm also going to change the pickups and preamp. Aguilar OBP3 might also be my choice for the preamp but i don't know yet for the pickups... Which new bartolini pickups did you put exactly please? You said you're having a great sound with the new ones so i'm a bit curious.
thanks for your advice! i've heard of these Pups several times but i've never heard them for real. Can you tell me what kind of sound they have? I personnaly like bartolinis for their round and bassy sound. thanks
Punchy and FAT!!! In single coil mode, its a billion percent fatter than a jazz!!! I love 'em! Great for almost any style of music!
mm.. great, that's what i love! The result must be impressive with an OBP3 then. thanks for your advice
