Okay. Here is the situation. I have a GK 1001RBII head and a Neo 212 cab. I notice that when my bass is plugged in I tend to hear an air/white noise type of sound coming from my speakers when I am not playing. Is this normal? I can cut the air/white noise slightly by tweaking my bass knobs but not completely. What is going on?
It's normal. All electronic gear generates self-noise, some more than others. That's the reason for S/N (signal to noise) ratings.
+1 to what Bill says. But also, how do you have the amp's EQ set up (not to mention the bass's)? There's a lot of high-boosting capability with that amp, what with High, Presence, and Contour, and also if you're using the bi-amp feature, what your Tweeter amp control is set at. Check it out. Could you possibly be overdoing it?
