AKAI Deep Impact

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by mjcoderre, Jun 26, 2008.

  1. Does anyone know where I can find one of these or at least a suitable option? I've been wanting a versatile synth bass pedal for a while but have been unable to find one. I'm looking for feedback on this. David Beasley from the Groove Shoppe always spoke highly of the Deep Impact but you can't find one anymore!

    Hollah...

Probably because it was discontinued 5 years ago.
They sell 2nd hand for about twice the new price these days.

    Watch Ebay...

Or you can buy mine for $800.... ( I know $800 is astrnomical, but that is the price i would sell it for, cause I use it for the band I am in, and would only be able replace it for that price....)

listen to clips of octavius squeezer by chunk systems = )

i'd take that over a deep impact anyday..but my synth of choice is still a korg G5..also discontinued.

why was such a highly praised synth pedal discontinued anyway?

  6. I might be willing to part with my Deep Impact. Since you are interested, maybe we can talk about it. PM me.

Highly prized, yes, but only by a relatively small group of bass gearheads like us.

I bought mine when they were being blown out around 5-6 years ago for $179. I recently was able to sell it for over $600.

Nice synth, but I just didn't have the gig that called for it.

Well, they are popular cause of Chris Wolstenholme. He uses one.

They are great pedals, but the recent popularity is from Muse, or partially from Muse...

I agree. He makes use of it with his fuzz tone, really unique sound. :)

...get an octave you like, a distortion/fuzz you like, & a filter you like...you'll have three individual pedals that are very usable & when you combine all three, great synth tones...

  14. Because it wasn't highly prized when it was discontinued, and now it's highly prized partly because it is discontinued.

The last 3 that went on eBay recently all sold in the range US$599-$880. Mine is going up on eBay this weekend, unless somebody here has some interest first.

Man, you remember when these sold brand new for like $125?
I should have bought a bunch of them and retired.

  19. I wish I was in the past and bought ONE. I just paid far too much for one on eBay but the competition was fierce.

I got mine from zzounds right at the end of production, and I think it said "1 left" on the site. It's been a staple of my live rig for 4 years, but unfortunately has been getting more and more unreliable. Forgets settings, locks up occasionally.

When it's running, it's great. It's all about the presets and input gain(for accurate triggering), nothing else that I've seen has those two important options.

We'll see what the octavius squeezer does, looks promising. Until then, I hope the deep impact holds on!(there is literally duct tape involved at this point)
