How does the deep impact stack up to the SYB-3?
The more I hear the tones that the boss produces, the more they sound like my old 8 bit nintendo. I haven't had the chance to try the akai out yet. Worth a look? (I can't afford a micro synth right now, but thanks for the suggestion)

I owned the SYB-3 and now own an Akai Deep Impact. I also have access to several analog synths including a Minimoog. From my experience, the Akai has much better sounds than the Boss. I play through a Kern/Aguilar all tube head. With the added warmth of the head, it sounds like a really high quality analog synth, huge and fat.

I have only had the Akai for a couple of weeks. I am still learning about its sounds and how it triggers. It is very sensitive to mis-triggers from mistakes and poor technique. I have to play very cleanly on it. Other than that, it responds beautifully.

Be sure to try the EH Microsynth. it is very nice sounding, but can be a little tricky with the sliders. Check out the other synth thread here

  4. forget the Boss and find yourself a Korg G5 bass synth; best bass synth made IMO. Has a CV input so you can control the decay in realtime. Fun stuff..
