My Essence 5 is called "The Beast" when I play it through my Marshall 400 VBA+VBC 4x12 cab in my band because of the power, clarity and air forwarded to the frontline. You can see their pants move.
I use SIT Nickel strings .050" - .130" and they mate very well with this bass and are cheap to boot, usually under $25 a set on ebay. They do stay in tune and last a very long time usually changed out when wear is notable on the windings as they still ring clearly and have even tone and volume across the fret board.

+1. I'm a big fan of SIT Nickels. Great bang for the buck. I echo Aussie Player and like them on a few of my basses. They really sing out on my MK Std.

I'm seeing some serious progress on the Custom Europa SII @FC Bass, but I'm confused about that assembly on top of the bridge block... whassat about, man?

I've discussed it on a Dutch bass forum and concluded it is the new Hippie intonation way, or maybe a new light weight bridge... :D

To me it looks like a normal bridge, they just haven’t finished assembling it yet.

The pic is taken during preset, they assemble and adjust all hardware before plating. This one will get Ruthenium plating:

Hardware for the Spoiler will be 24K Gold.
Body/top wood on both is Maple, with hollow bodywings.

Should be very nice (and light), FC.

Jazzyvee, thanks for the heads up on the SF-2, but that one is marked as sold. I’ll keep looking!

The long life of those Optima Golds looks intriguing but the cost (with the concomitant "what if I like them less than my Pressurewounds?") makes them a no (or at least a "not-now") for me.
