So I opened up my F-1X with the intention of trying out some different tubes but I encountered a metal casing around the 12AX7. That's a new one for me, but I'm sure folks around here have seen it before.

How do I swap the tube without messing things up?

    Thanks

P.S. Tube recommendations would be great too if you feel like offering them up ;)

unplug the preamp from the AC and just slide the cover down toward the tube's base and gently rock the tube out of it's socket.

I figured it was something simple like that.

    Thanks for the help.
