I really wanted to try an Electro-Harmonix 12AX7EH with my F1-X, but they are just slightly wider than what can fit into the tube shield. Anyone know of any way, I could get one to fit?

I would try buying the alembic a few drinks, maybe sweet talking it, and probably some K-Y :p

    sorry, i couldn't help it
honestly, i've never opened mine so i'm unfamiliar with the layout
alembic customer service is very good - give 'em a call

but i still think if you bribe the preamp it might help ya out. Try a diamond.

But wouldn't leaving the shield off expose the rest of the components on the board to dangerous heat? Also, how do you even take the shield off?

  7. Hi, the shield pushes down

Yeah, but that doesn't take the shield off. That just exposes the tube so you can check to see if it's lighting up.

I just received a reply from Mica Wickersham:

"You need to remove the tube, pull the shield to the normal installed position then use pliers
or similar to collapse the tube and fold it in on itself until you can free it. "

There you have it folks. :smug:
