Alex and his younger brother Russell are some of the most underrated bassists I know. They were doing 35 years ago, what guys like Victor Wooten & Richard Bona are doing today. Alex on both basses, as you can see in the clips provided.
He is amazing! I saw him with Randy Weston a couple of years ago, and it was one my favorite concerts I've seen. Also, when I asked Bob Hurst if he had heard of him, he said that people used to call him "strumboli" -because he's always strumming the bass.
