How exactly does Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse get the bass tone that he does? Listen to "Crushing the Despised" from Gallery Of Suicide and you'll know what I mean.

  2. I'll ask him next time he's in the shop....

...Alex is a real nice guy, by the way.

Alex's tone is a combination of 3 things:

    1) his technique/attack

    2) Ampeg

    3) Modulus

I love the bass part on 'mutation of the cadaver'...I like that staccato part he plays in the main rhythm.

This isn't Fieldy we are talking about, this man is actually very talented. Even if you don't like their music, saying he just bashes his bass?! Give me a break. :rollno:

It's been posted a bunch, but

There you go, you can ignore the vocalist. Please, post a video of you playing along to that... you know, just bashing your bass.

I saw that interview, but, he never really talks about how to get his tone. His tone in Blotted science is totally different from his tone in CC

It's a combination of his attack, tube amps, and active pickups. Here is a picture of his amp for the KILL sessions. It should give you an idea of what he is doing to certain frequencies.

the dvd that comes with evisceration plague shows a great close up of the settings he has for his svt4. i asked him a few days ago about his tone and he said that he is actually playing SWR instead of ampeg now. he thinks they sound better than the newer ampeg stuff.

I know that on the last few albums he has used a Spector Euro 5, Ampeg svt 4 pro, Ampeg 8x10 cab. I only think he used the Modulus bass on earlier albums. And just attacking the strings. No soft plucking going on there. Alex is just an amazing bass player. I got my three finger technique down from watching watching him live and on the bonus dvd's.

I was taking a look of the SWR site and I noticed that they have Alex in the artists list.

Does anybody know since when he started playing SWR

I once asked him and he wrote that his personal choice for sound is the Spector Euro. He widely uses the Quantum because it is an indestructible ultimate gigging machine
