Sorry for all these questions ;-))

Found this very nice bass in Germany.
Made by Alfred Volkmann in Schönbach 1938
    according to the label inside.
Made in an rather oldfashioned maner and slightly
    Frenchlooking....

Do know anything about this builder ?
I have searched the net and a few books but sofar
    nothing......

    Kind regards

    Obligato strings?

Are you paying attention, people? Christian is putting me to shame in the bass buying race.

    Hi Don :)
Yes you are correct, Obligato are fitted in the scan.
Currently there are Dadario pizzicato light fitted
    as I prefere them.

    Bass buing race....;-)
Maybe I am just trying to compensate for all thoose
lost years behind the electric BG ? I don´t know.
What I do know though is that it´s VERY easy
to fall in love with upright instruments
that have reached a certain age.
There are just so many angle in wich an upright can
be "looked" upon. First of all how it sounds, how playable it is, of course the looks but also
    it´s history.
The bass from Alfred Volkmann was made 1938,
the previous owner bought it around 1945
from an American in Germany. The price was
200 cigarettes ! He owned and played the instrument all he carear in the Frankfurt area.
It had not been played for about 15 years
and his son decided to sell the instrument
only this summer after his father passed away
    a few years ago .

Care to see the original owner ?
    Please view the scan.

    Kind regards,
    Christian
