  1. I've been looking at an old tube head to throw on top of my Ampeg 810E. Which one would be best? I play rock type stuff (Glassjaw, Underoath, Thursday, Thrice.)

Bassman 300 Pro and Sunn 300t are the exact same amp. I would definately gun for that or a Traynor YBA200

No Trace Elliot in the poll, why? You got something against Trace? ;)

Going by your sig and figuring you might want to cut through the mix, I would recommend a Trace Elliot Hexa or QuatraValve or one of the VA350/VA400 heads.

Of those listed in your poll, I picked the Bass 400, but I agree, you are missing some great tube heads, such as:

    Aguilar DB 359
    Eden VT-300B
Trace Elliot Twin, Quatra, and Hexa Valve
    Peavey Classic 400
    Sadowsky SA200
    Trace Elliot V4/V6/V8
    Trace Elliot VA350/VA400
    Traynor YBA200

Trace, trace, trace and more trace! Quatra and Hexa series, V series and VA series in particular.

  7. SVT-II, sorry, only one i play and i love it! (non pro im assuming you mean? )

  8. I had a chance to play a Ampeg 8x10 thru a vintage Ampeg SVT head and it WAS the rock tone. Doesn't get much better than that, if that's the sound you're looking for.

From the sound you describe, Mesa or Trace.

I'm pretty sure the guy from thursday uses a Sans Amp > SVT II > SVT810. He has a good tone, I must say I am quite a fan of it. I have been able to get a similer tone using my sunn 300 though.

I vote for sunn, then svt.

Trace V type (if possible), or 400+ from your list.

  14. A little birdy told me to tell you to go for the greatest bass amp ever dreamed up by the mind of mankind. Rule! Lead! Brutalize! SickVisciousTone.

Otherwise, you're just lying to yourself.
