I've exchanged a couple of e-mails with Brad, the man behind these pickups. Very helpful and informative guy. Either no one here has tried these or hasn't seen this thread. I'm probably going to give one or two of his pickups a try when I have the spare coin...

He's a well-known winder and people have often praised his pickups. I haven't tried a set myself, so I can't give any first-hand reports.

Thanks for chiming in, Stealth. I've been hanging on bass boards for a long time and had never previously heard a whisper about Classic Amplification's products. My impression so far is that he cares about quality construction and tone more than the Rickenbacker company.

Ah, I should've been more clear - he's occasionally mentioned on this board, but is one of the mroe respected winders on the Music Electronics Forum where winding veterans (such as him and Talkbass's own SGD) hang around and discuss with us newbies (such as me).

Brad's a good guy and makes a nice Rick pickup repro. Made like the real thing, only made better.

Oops, missed your replies for a few days. :rollno: Thank you, gentlemen!

"Made like the real thing, only made better." - I KNOW it's not just me who thinks it would be very easy for Rickenbacker to 'step up their game' a bit instead of doing the same old, same old...

Well, I ordered a pair of stock-wound black button-tops which will ship in a couple of weeks. I'll post impressions & pics after everything comes together...

Yes, it's a custom sidewinder. I'm doing one now in a toaster cover.

    P1130313.

    P1130347.

They fit like a charm and live up the claim on Brad's site. "Same Ric tone, but more of it". The high end is happening now, as I wanted all along. These were worth every penny to enable me to have a new bass with old-school sonic attitude.
