I have read good reviews about Alumabass cabinets, but I have never heard a personal comment on them. I am thinking about purchasing an Alumabass S410 or C410 cabinet. They are both 4x10" cabinets, the S410 has a stamped aluminum speaker, the C410 has a cast aluminum speaker. Whats the advantage of these aluminum speakers? I heard/read they can take more of a beating, and can handle more power, these two cabinets are said to handle 1200W. They usually sell for around $700, but www.musiciansfriend.com is selling them for $300-$350. I am a bass-newbie, and this is my first cabinet purchase, I am currently using a 10" combo practice amp. We play fast paced punk rock, so I was told a 4x10" cabinet would give me the punchy bass that I am looking for. We will be playing small club-type gigs. Our band never had any plans of playing in front of any crowds, just play for fun. But a friend that is in a local band that plays about twice a month heard us play and asked us to open for them at some of their gigs. If I can make a few bucks playing my bass, I'm all for it. So now I need some gear. Anyway, I would greatly appreciate any information on any suggested cabinet and amp combos. I can spend up to $1500, but would definitely like to stay around the $1000 range. Again, we will be playing small club gigs, and we play fast paced punk. Thanks for any suggestions.
i bought the alumabass s210t from MF. i'm completely satisfied. i like the cab as well if not better than eden or swr. you can't beat those prices on a new cab, especially a decent quality one. yes, a 410 cab will give you the punch you need for punk rock. the advantage of the cast frame speakers vs. the stamped frame are power handling (both are very high, cast is a little higher), and extended low range response (cast is better due to the larger magnet structure). the cones themselves are the same, though. these would be a great buy for anyone. just remember that if you get a cabinet, you still need a head. look at a hartke ha4000 or a gallien krueger 400rb for a good head at a decent price. also the carvin r600/r1000 heads. good luck in your amp search.
From what I understand, Alumabass is out of business, and the cabs are not made anymore. But I could be wrong.
yes i believe they are out of business...or at least MTS products doesn't manufacture the bullfrog alumabass cabs anymore.
Yes, they are out of business, thats why they are selling them for cheap. They do have these in stock, would it work for my needs. Is it a good brand? Or does the company going out of business mean that were a crappy speaker manufacturer?
i'm happy with my s210t. i was going to buy the c215, but i hesitated too long and now they're gone. last night i noticed that they only had one c410t left...i didn't want to miss out so i bought it. (thanx talkbass, for the G.A.S.) anyway, yes, it's a good brand. much nicer than hartke, imo. in fact, even compared to an eden or swr 210, i'm content with my alumabass. i think i even prefer it. very balanced. anyway, if you're gonna spring for one, you should do it soon because they're disappearing fast!
MF also has the nemesis (made by eden) head on sale for 550 - that's a great deal. that and the alumabass s410t would run 900 bux - that's a great deal. that rig would suit your needs...plenty of power and expandability since the amp is stable down to 2 ohms...if i were in your shoes, i'd seriously consider that head and cab.
Thanks Captainpabst.... I ordered a S410 cabinet. For $340 shipped, I figured I couldn't pass it up from what I heard about Alumabass. I'm going to a Mars Music this weekend to check out some heads, they stock a lot of stuff and you can test every item they carry. I'll definitely try out the heads you requested, I appreciate all your help.
Yep I'd be interested to hear what you think too. I looked into buying Alumabass cabs. When I phoned the suppliers here in the UK, I found them very helpful and informative. They'd reduced their prices but didn't mention them not being manufactured anymore. (This was about 5/6 weeks ago). I was surprised to see they were heavier than many cabs, and like you, I hadn't really come across anyone who could recommend them, so in the end I went for an Eden cab - which I'm extremely happy with.
