I’m trying to find a 13 hole with the tremolo cut aluminum pick guard for a carving project for a 2010 made in USA fender PBass. My question is this because I am new to all this so try not to laugh but is there a difference between the pick guard with the cut or one without? And don’t say please that one has the cut and one doesn’t because I already know that. Does it matter on the bass guitar itself? I don’t plan on having to adjust the tremolo and if I do I could easily remove the pick guard but purchasing one are the sizes different? I’m having a hard time finding one

You have a Fender bass with a vibrato bridge?

    Have you got any photos?

  6. What tremolo? Are you talking about the cutout for the truss rod nut access?

Look at how beautiful this is but this is for a jazz bass. He’s going to do some skulls and roses for me

You will need to adjust the truss rod at some point.

OK thank you I’ll try to find a pick guard with the cut out or maybe somebody could dremel it.

  12. I'm sure the engraver can make that cutout for you.

I guess my real question is without the cut will all the drill holes lined up? I’m pretty sure he could make that cut if he’s that good and engraving he can damn sure cut a tiny little u. Well at least I hope he can. Thank you everybody. Now I just have to find an aluminum one

As with most Fender basses with truss rod access at the heal of the neck you have to loosen the neck bolts to adjust the truss rod. I have a USA Geddy Lee and the pickguard came stock without a truss rod cut out.

I guess my next question is will any standard precision bass pick guard fit on my USA standard precision bass? With out the cut? Sorry to sound so stupid it has 13 holes.

  16. Why don’t you give your current pickguard to the guy doing the job? He is obviously skilled enough to use it as a template. Let him supply the aluminum plate.

He might need a thicker than normal pickguard material anyway.

That’s very cool work and a great look.

Meanwhile, any pickguard material, even cardboard, would let you keep playing while he makes his template.

Here's a link to ToneGuard, a specialist supplier of metal pickguards. If memory serves, I believe they are the OEM to Fender for the metal Precision pickguards they use on those Vintage re-issues.

There’s no need to monkey with the neck bolts on the newer American Fenders like this one. The hex wrench pops right in there.
