I have a trade in the works and i am getting cold feet.My 55-02 for a deluxe fender v(MIM) and a moderate amount of cash. The cash would help me finance a new rig but i just cant help but think i will have alot of remorse and not be happy with the fender.I have played it and it is a decent bass just concerned the honeymoon wont last.Thoughts?
I very much prefer the Lakland over the Fender. It comes down to personal preference but imo, the Lakland is so versatile, looks better, sounds better, feels better. Plus they have great customer service to always back you up. The new rig thing might be cool in your situation but personally I'd keep the Lakland and just save up for a rig later. Just my little opinion
I own both a Fender Am. Dlx. V and a 55-02. Hands down the Lakland has MUCH more tonal versatility. It's my go to bass. I have the Fender set up "vintage" with flats for an old school vibe, so I don't use them for the same purpose. But when the Fender had rounds on it, I played it side by side with the Lakland and I can honestly say, the Lakland is the better bass. That said, my Fender is WAY better passive than the Lakland. I love the vintage tone of the Fender running passive.
+1,000 Sorry, but I wouldn't trade my 55-02 for a dozen mim's... Ok, maybe a slight exaggeration, but still.
How much cash? For what's it's worth, I had a 55-02 briefly and I didn't like it. Traded it for a JO5. Much better fit for me. I also have a 55-01 I like better than the 55-02. I don't think it's a bad trade if you net a significant amount of cash in the trade. Good thing about Fenders is they can be upgraded if it's not up to par!
