Am I In The Right Place?

My name is Jiles. I play in a progressive rock band in my town with the greatest group of musicians and friends. We play all original music. We have several lyricists in the band and several music writers. It's a great Radiohead/Pink Floyd kind of mix. I play bass of all things, though I write many of our songs (not all of them of course) and sing as well. I'm the "Roger Waters" of the band. When I sing, I let our rythm guitarist play bass and I let others play as well. I used to be just playing bass to be in a band, but believe it or not, I actually kind of like playing.....

 

Well to be honest, I used to despise playing an instrument. I was a writer and vocalist. But now, I hold the low end down in my group. It's quite fun actually. Yes, perhaps I am in the right place. Still I don't know a thing about playing. Sure I know my modes and rubbish like that, but I just run little pent. scales between words when Im singing. anyother time i will rip it up like Jaco! just kidding.

 

My good friend, tis only humor that I don't know a thing about playing. I can't pop or slap....have no desire for. Would sound quite silly in our music. But I can feel a groove and create a melody by ear. It serves me well. I play a Tobias Deluxe and a Fender Precision. What do you play?
