    ...is this totally rediculous!?

I'm wondering if its a rich kid who was royally spoiled or simply cannot make up his mind! :eyebrow: I suppose it could just be a lie, but I do know there are some seriously spoiled kids out there.

Has anyone here even approached owning this amount of basses in approximately the same amount of time; if so, for what reason?

  2. If he needs someone to take a couple of those basses off his hands, I'm available.

And I am interested in the Wal -Mach II, a rick 4003, the Yamaha RBX75, one of the five string Modulus', and maybe some other 5er.

    I'm there for him. ;)

LOL, I wish I owned them; its just a list I found on the web. I did a little more searching and these are basses this "kid" has owned, he currently plays the MTD 535

I cannot even fathom owning that many; thats why I was asking if theres anyone here who does..... just one question... why!?

I mean this from a players perspective, not a collectors....

At most, there are maybe 20 basses I would like to own

Well, I'm sure the kid(this is a kid? or are you not sure?) has a reasonable financial backing, but don't get too thrown by the sheer numbers. Unless he had all those basses at once, chances are he just traded in a lot and put his fingers in many pies so to speak.

Like, I know this cat, he does the same thing with Apple computers, he'll have a powerbook one month then an iBook the next. It's not so much that he's rolling in the dough, he just understands how well Apple computers retain their value, and he's a masterful ebay salesman. Essentially, he may put in $2100 initially, after 5 or 6 sales, he usually ends up at most losing $100 or 200, and he gets to have 5 or 6 awesome computers. Sometimes he's even gained money from all his ebay wrangling.

I suspect it's a similar case here, so you have like 3 or 4 different stingrays, each the same, just different colors, well, that says to me that he likely got one, returned it a week later for a different color, then again and again, I dunno.

Or he's totally loaded and just likes to blow money.

I've owned just about as many basses as he did & we have the same birthday.

Oh well back to the drawing board I must say that's a impressive range
I wonder if he takes charity cases?

Well, I'm sure he'll be pleased to hear that. Funky/Jerome does go through a lot of basses, but it's not like he owned them all concurrently.

And it's not all that bad, really.

143/8 (years) = 16.75 basses a year. Or, 1.395 per month. Assuming he had no "keepers" that were constant. I think I read somewhere the most he's ever had at once has been less than 6. And, a lot of trades, so #9 might have left only to have #10 take it's place, it's not like he had some huge warehouse with all these at once, or anything.

Yeah, but you're flat out lying. :)

  15. Yep, it's true.

I'm not a kid. I'm 25 years old, and I'm a youth minister at a church. I currently own six basses. I have two reasonably steady gigs, and I like gear. I got into this thing about eight years ago, and shortly after, I discovered I had a knack for buying and selling gear. I manage to find good deals, and when I turn a bass, I'm always glad when I can offer it to another player at a good price. I'm not sure why that would cause somebody to have "less than zero respect" for me, but I guess everyone's entitled to an opinion. I'm pretty sure if you were to ask the dozens of TB'ers to whom I've given nice deals on cool gear, you might change your mind about my level of "spoiled-ness".

As for the original question...I dunno if you're jealous or not, but I think I'd be respectful enough to not draw conclusions about an individual that I knew very little about.

    Thanks.

    I been everywhere, man...
    None. At all.
I'd have a list much like that if I never bought a Sadowsky. The quest ended there.

I only know FC as an interesting fella with an advanced degree in Divinity or something related to that. Ultimately, his collection and/or purchasing habits are his money and his business.

That is truly an amazing list. I wish I was around here when I was in the market for a new bass.

More power to you if you can buy and sell in mass quantity like that.
