I don't post too often here but I have to recommend an amazing disk ('Graphic') from the fusion trio Altered. Incredible stuff. The bassist John Flitcraft has some formidable chops. Shades of Jaco, shades of Gary Willis, shades of Anthony Jackson. Beautiful album. And independently produced. You can check out the samples here:

  2. Agreed. John Flitcraft is surely one of the top players in the LA scene! The diversity (and seemingly discrete note choice) of his bass playing allows him to stand out amongst the masses of 32nd-note friendly fusionistas. ;)

His feel and spot-on rhythmic relationship with drummer Steve Holmes (mad, mad, mad drummer here in LA who runs the House of Drumming website (http://www.houseofdrumming.com/index2.htm) and often plays with violinist/composer Dorian Cheah) is unparalleled.

    Buy this CD!!

Yeah. Steve Holmes is one talented mofo. And I see that Hal Leonard just put out his instructional video.

These guys are all monster players individually, and the interaction and communication that occurs when these three get together really is something else. I'm a bit surprised that no one else here has heard of them. Highly recommend checking those samples out.

I have yet to pick up their new cd, but I have their first one. They are all amazing musicians and together they really click. It's just great music period. Can't wait to pick up the new disc!

Also, you can check out their website Altered for some videos of them playing.
