Im going to buy a mexi p bass. What pups do you recommend for an american p bass sound?
You can't beat these is you REALLY want that authentic p bass sound.
Several internet retailers sell them, such as:
Or, if you want "aftermarket", I recommend one of Seymour Duncan's Antiquity sets:
Whatever you do, don't put on a set of Duncan Quarter Pounders if you want traditional P bass sound - they are definitely different.
I just want it to sound like the new american p bass. or an american p basses in general.
Seymour Duncan SPB-1.
Or the original Fender P bass pickup:
If you mean American Series/American Standard, then you have no choice but to buy one of those.
Fender only sells reissue pickups. Just buy an MIA P!
I would try your hand at a used American.
Can't be much more than a MIM + a new p'up good enough to emulate the sound.
What sites sell them?
Sorry, I meant, like, actual retail sites. Basscentral?
Are there sites with soundclips of different pups? Besides youtube?
Actually, i looked into it. It will save me about 500 bucks.
Hmm... ok then. Still look around Ebay, just in case. I've seen people get a used American for $500.

[shameless plug]Why not get a Nordstrand NP4? I happen to have one for sale.[/shameless plug]
www.basspartsresource.com has Fender pickups. More of a selection than your normal parts retailer. They also sell on ebay as well but I've had better responses from them on their website.
