Hey folks! Looking for some input and recs for my bass rig. I’m currently using a mesa 4x10 subway series bass cab powered by the mesa subway D-800 head. I’m thinking of adding a second cab up top, I don’t want to go with 1x15 as live sound guys typically dont enjoy working with 15’s … so i was thinking of rounding it off with a 2x12 cab … my initial thought is that the 12’s would give just a touch more bottom end without muddying up my sound. Any thoughts and ideas are greatly appreciated!
The Subway is not your typical 115, regardless of what any "live sound guy" might think. That said, common wisdom is not to mix a 410 with a 115 as the distribution of power is less than ideal. Tonewise, I'll let others weigh in.
Mesa Boogie Subway Ultra-Lite 4x10 Bass Cabinet | MESA/Boogie® The frequency response between the 410 and the 212 aren't much different. The sensitivity ratings aren't much different. The weight for the 212 isn't really much of an advantage, either. That said, if you want to add a 212 to your 410, go for it.
I don't know which sound guys you've been working with, but I have never had 1 tell me which cabs I should and shouldn't use.
Right!!! I would tell him he/she needs to worry about the sound up front and I'll worry about my stage sound. Ridiculous.
