Sorry for the noob question, but I was wondering if it is safe to run a 1000W amp through a 800W capable cabinet. Will it explode instantly, or only if I turn it up too loud? What precautions should one take if you have this configuration.

    Thanks

  2. If it sounds like you are hurting it, you are. Other than that you should be fine.

You could run a 1000 watt capable amp into a 5 watt speaker cab. Use your ears and the volume knob. In the case you mention in the original post, you should have no issues.

  4. Yep. Guess how much a 10,000 watt rated amp outputs with no signal input....zero watts.
Use the ears you are given if the speakers sound bad, turn DOWN before they cook.

Ok thanks for the tips, so other than listening for damage, is there anything I can do to protect it?
