Amp Headroom With Compression

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Big Benner, Feb 12, 2006.

  1. I seem to be using more and more compression these days (from a BOSS ME-50B and a BOSS LM-2 in 2 different rock bands), and I'm just wondering if all that headroom that I have in my SWR SM900 is kind of a waste?

Anyone else have these fairly high powered heads and use lots of compression on their signal?

some people would say that compression is a good thing, others would say its a waste. I generally use some light compression to protect my speakers from slapping spikes. when I first got my compression I wanted to use it all the time, and heavy, like 4:1. now I don't go much higher than 1.5:1 personal taste I guess. I like to have some PUNCH to my sound.
