Us "old timers" remember the do it yourself radio kits right?Just wondering if anybody makes a small amp kit(tube or ss.)?Nothing fancy, just to put together as a fun project for myself and the kids. Maybe there is a website that has plans? I would need something fairly low tech as I am not the great handy man. Thanks
The plate voltages on even the smallest of tube amps are beyond what a beginning engineer would want to mess with. I am not too sure about SS kits. I have seen the subject mentioned a few times here, but don't ever recall anyone posting link to an actual maker or retailer. Chas
The kit "phenom" appears to mostly be targeted at tube loving guitarists although there are some bottom lovers getting in on the action. I have not seen any SS kits; honestly I haven't been looking for any either. K. O'Conner www.londonpower.com has some books that feature project kits. "Tonnes of Tone" has a cool little bass preamp kit and he's got some new books coming out with more info. Tapp
I have a kit amp I used to play a lot on. Really abused it, you know. Designed to last, built like a tank. look at http://www.velleman.be and search for the K4010. That's the one I got.
http://www.torresengineering.com/maktubam.html All kinds of kits from instrument mods to full amps. Made a big name for himself by doing most of the electric mods to the late 80's metal gods. I have had the pleasure of hearing alot of his work. Great stuff. And a helpful staff if you need questions answered.
