Amp + Ohm and watt q

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by semborg, Apr 18, 2005.

  1. I am running a Yamaha bbt 500h head to my 2x10 (4ohm) cab.
The head gives 250watt at 4ohms, and 500 watt at 2 ohms.

But will it give if I add another 8 ohms cab?
I heard one 4 ohm cab and 8 ohm cab will result in 2.67 ohm.

Will my head still only go 250watt?
Or will it go 333.75 watt?

Is it bad to mix different cabs with different impedances?

The amp would be making something between 250 and 500W, and the load would be about 2.67 ohm, but the power would go 2/3 to the 4 ohm cab and 1/3 to the 8 ohm cab, approximately.

There is nothing wrong with doing this as long as your amp is rated to drive that minimum total load. if the amp is rated to push a 2 Ohm load, then it will be within limits at 2.67.
