Amp or cabinet?

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Franky, May 27, 2002.

  1. Hi everybody,

I play on a SWR sm400s with a Basic 2 way 15" SWR cabinet. I almost play jazz and I try to get a round warmer tone. I don't know if I have to change my amp with something smoother or to get a new cabinet. Could you tell me wich amp(s) will give me a warmer tone?

    Thanks

Couldn´t come up with more amps starting on A;) .

Seriously. Their amps/cabs will give you a warmer sound.

Have you tried different strings yet?

How about turning down/off the cabinet's tweeter.

Or, try moving your picking hand closer to the fretboard...that's a free way to mellow your tone.

  4. I have tried all these things. I think i'm gonna go to my music store and try many cabs with my amp. I think it's the best way to analyse my sound.

Perhaps a tube change in the SWR's preamp could help.

I love buying gear as much (or probably more) than the next guy, but you have a great set-up and it should be able to do what you want.

That being said, I've played through an SM-400 and didn't like it as much as the used red faced Bass 350 that I recently bought. Something about me and Graphic EQs...

    Good luck!!!
