Amp recommendations for Prog

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by PJ White Eagle, Feb 14, 2018.

  1. Got hooked on Bass listening to Chris Squire of Yes and Jon Camp of Renaissance. Didn't have the funds for a Ric, but did pick up an Antoria Snow Eagle earlier this year (UK variant of Ibanez Black Eagle) also played by Jon in the late '70s and early '80s.
Currently running through a Vox AD30VT modelling amp, using Fender Bassman emulation. Any recommendations for a small (<50w) amp that can really get that 70's Prog sound?

Well first I’d recommend you get an actual bass amp. The new Fender Rumble series are all great amps. You can pretty much dial in any tone you could want.

  3. Not sure I want an amp with a good bass tone as all the Fender reviews state. Looking more for the brighter 'bass as an alternative to lead guitar' as with Renaissance, and to a lesser extent Yes and Asia.

That’s the beauty of a good amp. You can change how it sounds with just a few turns of a couple knobs.
