I am really sick of unprofessionnal repair / service centers in Souther California.

Anyone know of a place within the LA area that can be trusted? That knows what they are doing, and can be trusted to fix something right. Oh yeah and most importantly don't lie to me and take two months to return my amp to me with the same problem it went in with.

I have an Ampeg BA115HP that had the HF Horn go out. I called Ampeg and they directed me to this goof in Riverside, CA that does their warranty work. The Amp Doctor :rollno: I should have known just by the name. Kinda like when you see a restaurunt that just has a sign that says "eat" you know that can't be good. I dropped off the amp on 12/3/05 after dozens of phone calls and lies about when it will be done and what else is wrong with it. I got it back in mid February. I had to tell the guy that I was comming to get it finished or not. He agreed to meet me at the shop on a Saturday and promised it would be fixed. He didn't show. He didn't even open his shop. I left town that following Monday and my wife picked it up for me on the Wednesday after. THE TWEETER IS STILL BROKEN!!!!!!!! AAAAGGHHHHHH!!!!!

Now I have two Crown XLS amps a 602 and a 402. Both have a channel out on them. So I send them into this other goof in Canoga Park, CA. These amps have been on loan to my church for the last month and have not been used or moved other than when I mounted them in the rack and hooked them up. They called me Saturday and said they are not covered under warranty because they were damaged. The tech said the pots are broken on the inside so they can't be covered under warranty. WHAT????? I mounted and removed them myself. I also took them in myself. I know I did not drop the amps. I know that no one hit them when they were in the rack. We have a totaly overbuilt 1' solid wood rack case with a 1/8" expanded metal grill on it. A 100 MPH fast ball isn't getting through that. Now I get to pay $65.00 each for the parts plus labor.

These guys were considered reputable. I called a place called Amp-Tech in Corona, CA three times. Left messages and never got a call back. I was referred to another guy in San Bernardino and after listening to him tell me about his kids stealing from his cash register and how is son is a crack head he won't be able to start on it for six to eight weeks. I actually met this guy and saw his shop. After meeting him I don't think I'm sending anything there.

Sorry for the rant but I need a reputable shop in So. Cal that I can send my gear to. Help.:bawl:

Thank God the rest of my rack amps are QSC. No problems what so ever.

Call and ask for George. Super nice guy. I know it says "electronics repairs," but they do mostly guitar and bass amps. They do the repairs for all of the "big name" music stores in the area.
  3. i had the same expierence with the amp doctor.
well kinda, it took months and he always told me, "a few more days"

    f that guy.

I think I know of the place in conoga park that you're referring to. They did good speedy work on my amp when I took it to them for a repair.

  5. Welcome to So Cal. :crying:
I think your fustration covers most every aspects of life in So Cal. Ever try getting your car fixed here ? Or some work done on your house ?
I hope you get em fixed soon brother.
  6. Oh BTW have you checked out the Amp Shop on Ventura blvd. in Sherman oaks. I know nothing about them, I was in there last week buying a set of TI flats. ONLY place in a 100 mile radius that stocks em. Anyway they do repair.

    Funny simmilar story here.

He lied so much that he lost track of the lies he told me the last time I called so he would make something else up. When I would say "last time I called you said..." and then he would go into a rant about how crappy Ampeg gear is and they havent made good gear since the 70's blah, blah, blah. He actaully started ripping the amp the day i brought it in.

I told Ampeg about what he would say about their gear. I told her that they probably shouldn't refer customer into someone like that for warranty work. But the lady in customer service acted like it was no big deal.

Yup, the amp shop is another good Place. But I've also had good experiences with the Audio Repair Specialists.

They both have sites on the web. The ampshop actually has bassexchange.com as their site.

Does anyone have any experience with Ampwerx (Armand is the guy) in Long Beach? I've used him for a couple small fixes, no problems but not enough experience to recommend.

There's also a guy named Jim Foot who has a shop just west of the GC in Lawndale. Does excellent work at very good prices, but won't even look at something for at least a month.... (come to think of it, I just realized he has a chorus pedal I took in about a year ago, damn!)

And a bit off topic, but for speaker repair Orange County Speaker has been very good to me.

Permagrin, Are you talking about guitarworks when you talk about Jim Foot? I had a teacher and a good friend that really liked that place.

I can trust Bob at Rythm and Notes, and I've been enjoying the service at harbor music. Those are the three local places I can think of.

Another good guy, my personal favorite, is Bob Dixon/Amphole, over in Burbank. Give me a holler if you want his number.

Yes, that's the name. I like Jim a lot too, he's generous with his knowledge, fair on costs, and stuff is fixed well. His backlog just means it'll take a while for a repair, so I only take him non-critical stuff or when I know I've got a slow period approaching....

Armand at AmpWerx in Long Beach is very good, reliable and responsive. He is a bit of a mad scientist and his workshop looks like something that belongs in the ship from the movie "The Matrix", but he's navy trained and has a decent diagnostic bench rate which he will apply to your repair. Here's his contact info:
1935 E. 7th St. Long Beach, CA 90813; ampwerx@surfside.net 562-591-1423. Let him know that Doc Stein sent you and he'll take excellent care of you and your repair.

+1 He did very good work on my DB750 a while back. I'd definitely use AmpWerx again if needed. Funny about his workshop! It totally looks like the Nebuchadnezzar.
