First off hi to everyone here as i'm new...:)

Ok i recently got an ampeg 8x10 cab secondhand to go with my old Burman pro 4000 valve head..I have to say after glueing some of the speaker dust caps down and correcting the wiring as some of the speakers were wired out of phase..the set-up now sounds absolutely phenomenal!!

Anyway I wanted to check the history of the cab..and try to restore it a little..It is straight backed..when did they make straight backed cabinets? All the speakers are dated 1973..what power rating is the cab?? I think it has been recovered as the cloth is black 80's looking..what should it have originally? Should there have been any handles on it?? etc..I suppose i need to see a picture of an untouched original..

    Thanks, Philip.

i just picked up a vintage early 70's 8x10 as well. my speakers were shot. tell me what you mean by the whole.. wiring thing. i am positive i wired my speakers wrong because they are new and sound terrible. mine has handles. on one side. no wheels. no bars. 32 ohm speakers @ 4 ohms. one input jack (4ohms). 1600 watts. please tell me how you wired your speakers.

Hi they are wired in parallel like this [IMG]

The speakers are all marked with a dot near the + terminal. make sure all the coloured wires (blue/green in my cab) attach to this terminal..make sure all the black wires attach to the other terminal without the dot next to it....so 8 x 32ohms will give you 4 ohms total load...if any of the wires get mixed up it will sound like poop..in fact i was stunned at how bad it did sound with three speakers out of phase...

alright.. if you do the math.. the speakers in a vintage 8x10 make it a 4 ohm cab. because the newer ones can power two heads by dividing the 4x10s it makes the impedance 8 ohm. but yeah its a 4 ohm cab. thanks alot man. i am about to try my cab. i just re wired it (again). it works!
