Ampeg B-15 Portaflex prices

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by tightbidness, May 31, 2005.

  1. Has anyone else noticed that vintage Ampeg Portaflex prices are on the rise lately? Jess Oliver, the amps' inventor, just sold a refurbished 1966 B-15-N for $2,275! That's a special case, but in general B-12s, B-15s and B-18s seem to be bringing far more than they did even a few months ago.

Supply & demand methinks. Fortunately they made an awful lot of them...

My 66 or 67 B-15N (which I got in the early 90s) was purchased from someone who used to work at the Ampeg factory in NJ and refurbed the head. The tolex and speaker were stock, etc. It is one of the purchases I do not regret to this day - it even has the original cover, etc.

    I love my B-15N.

I also think that the newer amps - such as the B-15R - do not have that vintage sound people are craving ...

I really hate to hear things like this...

My $500 B15N could sell for what-a grand?

My $700 Klipschorns go for $2000?

    My $900 McIntosh Mc30 are worth $1500?

My $1200 upright is worth upwards of $5000?

Well, I shouldn't bitch. It's just hard to hang on to the things you love when they'd be so profitable... I ate a lot of ketchup sandwiches with that upright in the corner, though.
