So I just had my b15n worked on. Had the speaker cable and input switched to quarter inch so I can use other heads and cabs. Also had the speaker replaced with an Eminence. I really dig the sound of the cab with my other heads. So I'm looking for a wood top with the locks, like the same thing as what's on the bottom of the head to seal the cab. Can't seem to find anyone that makes one.

  2. You can contact Mark at Vintage Blue; or you can get them from Fliptops. I don't know whether Mark makes just the lids or not.

You can make one very easily, but I'm sure fliptops.net has something for you.

Thanks! Found what I needed, but $70 seems high. It is what it is I guess.

By the time you buy the wood, the lag bolts, and the tolex, you'd have probably close to $30 in it. And trimming and attaching tolex is a PITA.

True. I mean is this a cab I can take out to gigs and not worry about bumping around? Would it be more delicate than my berg or swr?

Well the tolex is more delicate than rat fur, but other than that, B-15 cabs are pretty well tanks as long as they've been de-rattled.

What do you mean by de-rattled?

Rattles can develop over the years. The insulation strip under the lid can get mushy and leak, the rubber grommet that blocks the hole when you take the dolly off can leak, the foam under the grillcloth that prevented the cloth from rattling against the baffle turns to dust after so many years, and I think the latches rattling goes without saying! Good news is they can all be fixed if you have them. But if you don't, then they're tanks.

Ok. Well I have the latches tightened because I noticed one was loose. Also the foam under the lid was replaced to help create a better seal. Other than that, the new speaker, and quarter inch conversion, I don't think anything else was done.

Then you should be good to go! Just pointing it out in case...

So with the phone plug conversion what did you do about the ground interlock?

The ground interlock is only pins 2 and 3 in the 4 pin XLR tied together. Mine had a 1/4" conversion done when I got it, though I had it restored. Not really a big deal.
