View attachment 3454493 I got to play one today for the first time in a recording session. All I can say is, now I get it! What a fantastic sounding amp.
Good practice to record straight DI And mic. Just in case. You need clean track for editing or re amp I'm guessing he ran DI and ran a mic
Using a B-15N as my first amp (a 1970 model), impressed by the volume was never a thought that crossed my mind. It was ok with a jr high school choir and stage band, but moving from that to a 100 voice choir, then 3 piece rock band, the amp that could just couldn't keep up. I traded it off. It came back a few years later, got sold again, came back, repaired, reused, blown up again and now sits forlornly in my shop gathering dust. Someday... Tim
Haha. I said for 30 watts, not for my main live rig. I'll reiterate though, it had a beautiful sound.
One of you may own this one now. An older gentlemen was having it cleaned up and tested. He was selling it to someone up north. I want to Say Ohio, but I'm not sure.
I used to run the head portion with my Ampeg 8x10 for a while for live gigs. It was more than enough volume for indoor gigs, outdoors I had to push it to the point where it started distorting.
Can you describe the difference the JBL made in performance? Louder? Brighter? I ask because I have a B-15 and wonder whether changing speakers would be worthwhile. So far, the original CTS has worked best for me. Thanks.
the original speaker , i can't remember what it was , just didn't sound good to me . the reconed JBL just gives it a smoother , warmer tone , at least to my ears ... if the CTS is working for your sound , i wouldn't change it . ... here are my B15 and B18 , both loaded with JBL's ... use whatever works best for you !!
@JimmyM How would you describe the sound/tone differences of the B-15 and pf-20? Also, is one much louder than the other? @TNCreature Congrats and good luck on the recording gig. Looks like a cool piece of history you got to use for it! What kind of music is the recording?
Unfortunately I haven't played through a PF-20T yet, bro. However, I do love that PF-50T. Sounds like a V4B rather than a B-15, but I can get all the same sounds I like out of either so it's all good.
This particular group is pop rock inspired by REM, Smith's roots, without sounding retro. Pretty friendly stuff.
